David Hartman is a seasoned leader in the social sector, with 30 years of service in executive management and consulting. Since 2011, he has served 12 organizations as Interim Executive. In this capacity, David provides leadership during an executive transition that stabilizes organizations, supports the board and staff, elucidates options for future strategic direction, and offers support and input to the executive search process.

David has also led numerous organizations through a comprehensive process of evaluating and implementing mergers and strategic partnerships, while serving as interim executive and as a consultant. During a merger, he provides leadership and guides boards and staff through an internal assessment, identification of prospective partnerships, strategy, negotiations, and integration. David works closely with the board and staff to ensure decisions will facilitate the strongest sustainable options for the future.

With a distinguished approach to donor-centered fundraising practices, David also guides organizations through all aspects of strategic fund development; engaging staff and board and helping organizations increase their capacity to attract resources.

David was formally trained in interim executive management, with emphasis on leadership protocols and instrumental tools for providing strategic transitional leadership.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and economics from the University of California, Berkeley, a master’s degree in Nonprofit Management from the University of San Francisco, and he studied economics at the University of London.
